Biotec 5 and 10 Filtration System The components of this system are a Power Max 5500 for Biotec 5 filters or a Power Max 10000 pump for Biotec 10 filters, a UV-Clear unit and a Biotec biological filter. Together they can solve the water gardener's most difficult problem: dirty water. Cloudy, dirty water and strong algae growth are common problems in ponds. These problems are enhances by an excessive supply of nutrients, dead plants, over-fertilized soil, acid rain, fish excrement and left-over food. They product ammonia which is harmful to fish. The OASE Biotec Filter System transforms ammonia into nitrite using a natural process. The nitrite which is still harmful, is then changed into harmless nitrate. Another feature of the Biotec Filter System is the easy cleaning. An indicator automatically gives the degree of pollution and shows when the filtered biomass must be removed. The filter is cleaned by simply removing the inner dirt tank, rinsing it with clear water, and reinserting it again. The filtered biomass is a very good organic fertilizer. In addition, ultraviolet control of algae can be provided with a UV. Info about Biotec 5 and 10... 1. Pond water is pumped through the 1" standard threaded connection. 2. UV-Sterilizer (optional & sold seperately). Water is transported through the ultraviolet light which kills algae and bacteria. 3. Spray Aeration. Water is circulated through a spray aeration system adding oxygen into the filter. This is important for the biological process as the "good bacteria" need oxygen to survive. 4. Blue Zone. Coarse dirt particles are kept in the voluminous blue bio-elements. Thanks to the oxygen rich blue zone, bacteria develop quickly and transform ammonia (extremely dangerous to fish) into nitrites. 5. The large surface area of the bio-elements is ideal for an aerobic and anaerobic decomposition of pollutants at the same time. Harmful nitrite is then decomposed. 6. In the Red Zone the mechanical and biological filtration allow bacteria in the red zone to decompose into nitrates. Nitrate can be absorbed and decomposed by plants in a natural way. 7. Denitrification Zone. Thanks to water that is poor in oxygen, micro-organisms change excessive nitrates into harmless nitrogen. 8. The dirt tank is made of environmentally friendly polyethylene. It can be completely removed for cleaning. The bio-mass is easily filtered out of the pond water and kept in the tank. 9. The Pollution Indicator measures the degree of pollution and indicates when the filter should be changed in order to guarantee maximum efficiency. 10. This filter also has a temperature indicator which indicates the ideal temperature for the pond and the amount of activity of bacteria. Micro-organisms such as bacteria multiply at a temperature of more than 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Water which is too warm may cause increased algae growth and eliminate the majority of oxygen in the pond. The indicator shows you the ideal temperature for the pond and the activity of the bacteria. 11. Double Tank. The tank is made of environmentally friendly polyethylene and can be buried in the ground or stay above ground as a stand alone unit. 12. The filter outlet has a 2 3/4" standard outlet connection.
