How do AquaMats work?

AquaMats® work by promoting a Natural Cycle in the pond.  This cycle is divided into 3 distinct phases as described below:

INSTALLATION UP TO 4 WEEKS:
"Exponential Growth"
As soon as the AquaMats® are placed in the pond, they attract a diverse biological community to their surfaces.  We refer to the first 4 week period in the pond, where the product becomes established from a biological perspective as the "exponential growth phase".

FOUR TO EIGHT WEEKS:
"Maturation & Balancing of Ecosystem"
During the maturation and balancing phase, the biological growth community on the AquaMats® comes into relative balance in the pond ecosystem.  The balancing process is aided by both pond fish and the naturally occuring zooplankton population present in most ponds.  Basically, the biological growth on the AquaMats® provides ideal natural food for a healthy and stable zooplankton population and most pond fish will supplement their diet with zooplankton and benthic algae if available.

EIGHT WEEKS AND BEYOND:
"Cycle is Completed & Repeated"
Once the biological community of the AquaMats is formed in relative balance with the available nutrient conditions of the pond, AquaMats® will function in a continuous cycle.   Metabolic wastes and nutrients from other organic sources are consumed and processed on the AquaMats® surfaces!
